The plan
Dubai 2040
The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan is the Dubai Government's plan for how the city grows. It was launched on 13 March 2021. This is what its launch release states.
- Five urban centres are named. Deira and Bur Dubai for tradition and heritage. Downtown and Business Bay as the business and financial heart of the city. Dubai Marina and JBR as the hospitality and leisure centre. The Expo 2020 Centre. Dubai Silicon Oasis Centre for science, technology and knowledge.
- The number of Dubai residents is stated to increase from 3.3 million in 2020 to 5.8 million by 2040.
- The day-time population is stated to increase from 4.5 million in 2020 to 7.8 million in 2040.
- Green and recreational spaces and areas given over to public parks are stated to double in size.
- The length of public beaches is stated to increase by as much as 400 per cent by 2040.
